FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried Says Bread And Peanut Butter Is His Only Sustenance In Jail

Former FTX Founder Complains Of Unsavory Prison Meals

Sam Bankman-Fried, former Founder of failed crypto exchange FTX has apparently been experiencing inhumane prison conditions, surviving on only bread, water, and peanut butter provided by the detention center he was housed in.

On Tuesday, August 22, Bankman-Fried Attorneys notified Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn of the former FTX founder’s well-being and jailing conditions. They reported that Bankman-Fried has been subjected to limited resources, including being served “flesh diets” which opposes the client’s vegetarian lifestyle.

As a result, the former CEO has been made to survive on paltry sustenance. Attorneys also revealed that the detention center has failed to provide prescription medications to the former FTX CEO.

According to reports, Sam Bankman-Fried suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and depression. And attorneys have stated that the former FTX founder is in constant need of Adderall and Emsam medications to manage his medical condition.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s Attorney, Mark Cohen disclosed to the judge that the former FTX CEO has not been provided his ADHD drug medications since he was incarcerated and this could impact his well-being, both mentally and physically.

“There are medical issues. My client takes Adderall… And like many people in the world, he follows a vegan diet. He had not received his Adderall at all, in the last 11 days. Notwithstanding a court order. A few Emsams, he’s fearful they will run out,” Cohen said in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

Attorneys Say Bankman-Fried’s Incarceration Hampers Ability To Prepare For Trial

Bankman-Fried’s legal team is currently striving to secure necessary medications and nourishment, stating that if their client is continually subjected to meager living conditions, it may hamper his ability to participate in the upcoming trial scheduled on October 2.

His lawyers also stated in a court hearing at Manhattan Federal Court that the ex-FTX CEO requires access to computer services and medications to prepare for his court case. This complaint comes after the former FTX CEO pleaded not guilty to seven charges of fraud which led to a loss of billions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies.

Bankman-Fried was previously under a $250 million bond house arrest at his parent’s house in Palo Alto, California. However, the arrangement was terminated by Judge Lewis A. Kaplan after investigations revealed that the former FTX CEO attempted to intimidate witnesses in the case. Bankman-Fried was sentenced to jail after Judge Kaplan overruled his bail.
